In light of adoption observances this month, we decided to spotlight a few international rescues who across the globe, work tirelessly to give abandoned, abused, and forgotten dogs a second chance. Their compassion, commitment, and creativity make the world a kinder place for animals — and remind us of the power of community and love. Here we acknowledge 5 extraordinary rescues making a difference every single day.

Soi Dog Foundation (Phuket, Thailand)

Across the Pacific in Thailand, the Soi Dog Foundation is leading the fight against cruelty and suffering in Southeast Asia. Founded in 2003, Soi Dog began as a small effort to help the stray dog population on the island of Phuket. Today, it has grown into a global movement — rescuing, sterilizing, vaccinating, and rehoming tens of thousands of animals (many having suffered extreme physical conditions)  each year.

Beyond direct care, Soi Dog also tackles the larger systemic issues that contribute to animal suffering. The organization campaigns against the dog meat trade, works to change animal welfare laws, and provides education programs to build a culture of compassion for future generations. Their groundbreaking work has inspired similar efforts throughout Asia and beyond.

Rescue Dogs Rock NYC (New York, USA)

We’ve personally serviced a few dogs from this incredible group.  In the heart of Manhattan, Rescue Dogs Rock NYC is known for taking on the toughest cases — the dogs no one else will. Founded with the belief that every life matters, the organization rescues dogs from kill shelters and dire situations, providing critical medical care, behavioral support, and a second chance at life.

Their social media updates have become powerful storytelling tools, showing before-and-after transformations that prove what love, care, and resilience can achieve. Each success story — a frightened stray becoming a joyful family companion — reminds us that rescue truly changes everything.

Compassion Without Borders (Mexico & California)

Compassion Without Borders (CWOB) bridges the gap between two worlds — working tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in both Mexico and the United States. Founded by veterinarian Dr. Christi Camblor, CWOB provides medical care, spay/neuter clinics, and a safe haven for dogs in need, often rescuing from regions where resources are scarce.

Their work goes beyond borders and species — offering not only second chances to thousands of animals but also education and community support to improve the human-animal bond in underserved areas.

K-9 Angels (Romania & United Kingdom)

What began as a small group of volunteers determined to make a difference for Romania’s stray dogs has grown into K-9 Angels, an international force for good.  They are best known for their efforts having assisted more than 5,000 street dogs in Romania that struggled in terrible conditions and were often subject to torture by locals, find homes.  Founded by three women with a shared passion for animal welfare, their outreach and advocacy have helped draw global attention to the plight of Romania’s stray population, proving that even small teams can spark massive change through determination, transparency, and heart.

North Shore Animal League America (Port Washington, New York, USA)

As the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization, North Shore Animal League America has saved more than 1.1 million lives since its founding in 1944. Their expansive reach includes rescue operations across the United States and internationally, with an unwavering mission: Rescue. Nurture. Adopt. Educate.

The League’s cutting-edge medical center and adoption facilities are models of humane care, and their community outreach — including mobile adoption events and humane education programs — continues to inspire the next generation of animal advocates.

Every rescue has its own story, and there are many locally we love (Lucky Dog Rescue, Knine Rescue, & Tasca’s Love), but they all share a common heartbeat — a belief that love and compassion can transform the world, one wagging tail at a time.  Consider helping through either donating, or fostering, if you’re not ready to adopt.  We’ll offer 10% off your first month for any new adoptions or fosters acquired this year.
